Grandma Luella's Rhubarb Slush

Here it is. Here is the rhubarb slush recipe that has become such a hit among our friends and families. My Grandma Luella helped me make a batch to take with to the Waugh-Maddock wedding. Everybody loved it and asked for the recipe. Since so many people have been asking for the recipe, I decided it would be easier to post it on our blog than writing out a bunch of recipe cards. If you have never had rhubarb slush, don't worry, you are going to love it. Enjoy!!

Rhubarb Slush
8 cups Rhubarb
3 cups Sugar
2 quarts Water
1 pkg. of Raspberry Jell-O (small)
2 cups Vodka or Apricot Brandy

Combine rhubarb, sugar, and water. Cook until tender. Strain. While hot, add 1 small package of raspberry Jell-O (strawberry can also be used, but raspberry is my favorite). Stir until Jell is dissolved. Let cool. Add vodka. Pour into a 5 quart ice cream bucket and freeze. Stir at least once during freezing process. Put 1 scoop of sluch into a glass and add one of the following: Squirt, Sprite, Strawberry Pop. Lemonade, or Champagne.

If you have any questions let me know. It is super easy and is so delicious. It is great for summer entertaining. Have a good night!!

Our Lives Lately

I thought a/b doing an end of the year recap, but instead decided to give a little update on a great start to 2011. Sorry there won't be any pictures, but I promise I will have pictures of the upcoming weekend...Little "I".

January was pretty quiet. Dusty managed to go ice fishing a few times and the snow continued to pile up. I'm so sick of snow. I think white has become an even more depressing color than black. I am anxiously awaiting spring. I went to the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce Bull Days with my dad. There weren't a lot of people there due to the weather, but the people who braved the roads and cold got to see some great pens of bulls.

February is off to a fantastic start. Friedt Herefords had their annual bull sale on Thursday. The sale average was up from last year's $2700. We were pleased with the turn out, especially since the days leading up to the sale had been very, very cold and the road conditions were terrible. Many of the bulls are staying in the southwest corner of the state, but a few are off to South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The Stark-Billings 4-H Livestock Judging Team has their first contest yesterday. I am what you could call the assistant coach. We have 3 junior judgers and 1 senior judger. They started the season off strong. They are super excited for the Little "I" Judging Contest put on in conjuction with the Saddle & Sirloin Club's Little "I". I am excited for this contest because many of my friends participate and will be at Little "I". It is going to be one to remember.

I can't believe I almost forgot to mention Libby. Libby continues to grow like a weed. She can brighten anyone's day and is always so happy to have company. We keep telling each other how glad we are we got a puppy.

I hope you all enjoy Superbowl Sunday. Dusty and I will be enjoying it home by ourselves, but that's OK. I hope everyone has a good week and stays warm!!
